There’s already one NFL coaching vacancy, with the promise of more to come. But one popular name reportedly will sit out the 2014 season.
Jon Gruden, who won a Super Bowl with the Buccaneers, will remain in the booth for ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.” ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports Gruden is “not expected” to pursue a coaching job for next season.
And two other Super Bowl winners aren’t expected to give up their cushy TV gigs, either, according to Mortensen. Tony Dungy and Bill Cowher will remain in a TV studio rather than return to the crushing work schedule required of an NFL coach.
At the moment, only the Houston Texans have an opening, after the firing Friday of Gary Kubiak.
