All hail the kicker, killer of Lions and savior of Ravens and fantasy football enthusiasts.
Justin Tucker single-footedly lifted Baltimore past Detroit 18-16 on Monday night with field goals from a variety of lengths. Tucker kicked the game winner, a 61-yarder that just barely made it over the crossbar. “I didn’t get all of it,” Tucker said, “but got enough of it.”
The Ravens, as they did a year ago, are getting on a late roll. At 8-6, they’ve won four in a row and face the New England Patriots at home Sunday and the 9-5 Bengals in the regular-season finale. That’s a great position to be in, even if the only person who scored Monday night was the kicker. Admittedly, that played out with a little more excitement in fantasy than in reality.
“My fantasy team is benefiting from it,” Tucker joked afterward. “Fantasy owners around the world, I hope you appreciate the points.”
“As I always say I dislike fantasy football because it takes away the real value of the game,” Ravens wide receiver/buzzkill artist Torrey Smith tweeted. “It’s great for the fans to interact and be their own ‘GM’ but people take it way to[o] serious.”
