It actually can be too wintery to play ice hockey.

The NHL game between the Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres has been postponed, a casualty of the polar vortex that has caused temperatures to plunge across the country and a blizzard that is striking western New York.

Officially, the game is being “postponed due to the hazardous weather conditions in the Buffalo area.”

The game, which has not yet been rescheduled, is the first to be scrubbed for weather reasons since Dec. 6, 2000 (via the Buffalo News).
