Notre Dame’s Under Armour deal is largest in college sports

Notre Dame made it official today, confirming reports that it would move from Adidas to Under Armour and revealing in vague terms just how big this new deal is.

It’s a 10-year contract for apparel and gear that is, Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick announced, the most lucrative in college sports. Although he did not provide financial figures, the school has the option of taking some payments in Under Armour stock. Notre Dame had been with Adidas for 17 years and, by way of reference, in 2005 signed a 10-year deal worth more than $60 million. It will switch to the new apparel in 2014-15.

“We couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity,” Swarbrick said (via the South Bend Tribune) at a press conference held at the Guglielmino Athletics Complex. “By any measure, it is the largest deal of its kind in the history of collegiate athletics.”
