Volkswagen spreads its wings in Super Bowl commercial

The Product: Volkswagen

The Premise: Every time a Volkswagen hits 100,000 miles, a German engineer gets his wings. But because so many of their cars are able to go the distance, the embarrassment of having wings sprout out at the most inopportune moments — like in a wind tunnel, or a small elevator with an attractive woman — is all too frequent.

The Punchline: What happens to the German engineers at 200,000 miles — especially the look of pleasurable humiliation on that actor’s face — is even better.

The Verdict: It’s no match for “The Force,” Volkswagen’s greatest Super Bowl commercial. But it’s a chuckle.
