A game of golf with Bill Belichick? Just what a fellow needs to get over the most humiliating Super Bowl loss of his career, right?
Three days after the Denver Broncos were crushed by the Seattle Seahawks, Peyton Manning hit the links with New England Patriots at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on Wednesday, with internet caption contests and tons of tweets following in their wake. And wait until Thursday, when Tom Brady joins the tournament.
As unlikely as it may seem, the football rivals actually are friendly and have been known to quietly play a round of golf together, as they did last July.
“We’re pretty good friends,” Brady told MMQB.com’s Peter King last summer. “I like that. It’s important to me. Peyton has two brothers he’s really close to; I don’t have a brother. We’re competitors on the field, but there’s no reason we can’t be good friends off it. There’s not many people who understand what our jobs are really like, on and off the field.”
Belichick and Brady will be in a foursome, with Belichick teaming up with James Driscoll and Brady with Ricky Barnes.
