This is either the best or worst idea ever.
David Beckham, who is exercising his option to buy an MLS expansion team in the Miami area, reportedly may call it “the Miami Vice,” the buddy-cop show from the 1980s. The Palm Beach Post reports that “the Miami Current” and an undisclosed name tied to a sponsor are also under consideration. Which makes Miami Vice sound better. Especially if the players wear mullets and push up the sleeves of their long-sleeved pastel shirts.
Here’s one mockup that was shared with the Palm Beach Post last week:
Beckham, in an MLSSoccer.com video, said that nothing had been finalized yet.
“We do have ideas for a team name,” Beckham said when he announced last week that he would be placing the team in Miami. “I’m sure people would have liked me to stood on the stage today and say, ‘This is the name, [these] are the colors, but I want it to be right. I know how important a name is to a city and to the fans.”
