Erin Andrews returns to “Dancing with the Stars” — as co-host

There’s been a shakeup on “Dancing with the Stars,” one that will give Fox Sports sideline reporter Erin Andrews the weekly prime-time gig starting next month.

People.com reports that she’ll join Tom Bergeron for the 18th season of the ratings-challenged series on which she competed eight years ago. She’ll replace Brook Burke-Charvet, who told E! online in a statement two days ago:

“I have enjoyed seven seasons co-hosting ‘DWTS’ but understand the need for change considering the position of the show at this juncture. I’ve always been one to embrace change and [I’m] looking forward to pursuing opportunities I previously wasn’t able to entertain because of contractual obligations to the show. I’ve seen my fair share of shocking eliminations in the ballroom, but this one takes the cake.”

The series returns March 17.
