South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney may have been a bit of a disappointment in his bench-press performance at the NFL scouting combine, but he blew everyone away in the 40.

Clowney, whose work ethic was rated a “meh” by Coach Steve Spurrier last week, bench pressed 225 pounds Sunday, very “meh” indeed.

On Monday, Clowney, who has been projected to be the first non-quarterback selected, solidified that status by running an unofficial 4.47-second time in the 40 — which means that, at 266 pounds, he has the speed of a wide receiver. It’s a stellar time, even if he loses a little time on the official clock. On his second official attempt at the run, he clocked an unofficial 4.48. The 4.47 was faster than 56 running backs and wide receivers on Sunday.
