Red Bull is giving the world more than wings now — the energy drink company is bestowing upon humanity the first ever “double pipe,” or two halfpipes laid side by side. What could possibly go wrong?
The double pipe, which will be constructed on Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colo., will be 180 feet wide, 550 feet long, 22 feet tall, making it the largest halfpipe ever built.
But before the public is allowed to narrowly avoid colliding with each other while attempting Iouri Podladtchikov’s Yolo Flip or Shaun White’s Double McTwist 1260, Red Bull will cement its place as one of the world’s best marketers by holding the Red Bull Double Pipe competition from March 19 to 23.
As far as who will compete, that’s still mum, but according to Red Bull, the riders will all be “hand-picked” from a list of the world’s best halfpipe and slopestyle riders. And yes, riders will be using both pipes.
“Dual pipes will allow the riders to transfer from pipe to pipe utilizing all that is available to them, including rails, wallrides, channels and other unique features,” Red Bull said in a blog post. “Not only will the riders be encouraged to use both pipes, they will also be judged on their style, creativity and overall use of the course.”
Needless to say, extreme sports enthusiasts are pretty excited about this development.

So…the Red Bull double pipe looks like it’s going to be insane!… http://t.co/vcywfjdER2— Absolute-Snow/Skate (@AbsoluteSnowUK) March 5, 2014
If you can’t get to the event to watch it live (it’s free to attend), Red Bull says NBC will air the double-pipe competition on April 12 at 2 p.m. That’s plenty of time to practice saying, “That was sick!”
