On Thursday night, Louisville crushed, just crushed, Rutgers in an American Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinal game and, afterward, there wasn’t much either coach could say.
Eddie Jordan, tasked with restoring the Rutgers program, conceded that “nothing worked tonight. We tried.”
Louisville, the defending national champion, led 58-16 at halftime and finished with a 92-31 win. It wasn’t much of a surprise that Louisville (27-5) would put on a show; the Cardinals beat Rutgers by 48 points a month ago and have won nine of their last 10 games. Still…just what does the winning coach say after a performance like that? Coach Rick Pitino conceded that “I’m not really sure what to say. It’s one of those nights where everything went really well for us and nothing went right for them.”
Then, he offered a little
glass half-full glass totally full advice.
“You go right to the bar, forget the game, have a drink and get ready for next year.”
