No. 3 seed Iowa State scored a 93-75 victory over North Carolina Central in its first-round game Friday night, but paid dearly. Reports indicate sophomore forward Georges Niang broke his foot and will therefore be out for the rest of the tournament.
Niang is the Cyclones’ third-leading scorer at 16.5 points per game. Iowa State will need to find a way to cover for his points and inside presence and do so quickly: They play North Carolina on Sunday.

Terrible news for Iowa State’s Georges Niang. One of the best players in country. Fractured foot tonight. Obviously done for tourney.
