Lorde finally meets George Brett, inspiration for “Royals”

Lorde, muse. Muse, Lorde.

Finally, the musician met the guy who inspired her song, “Royals.”

That would be the Kansas City Royals’ Hall of Fame third baseman George Brett, whose photo in National Geographic gave her the idea for her song. Last year, she told VH1 that she saw a photo “of this dude just signing baseballs. He was a baseball player and his shirt said, ‘Royals.’ It was just that word. It’s really cool.”

Scheduling conflicts had kept the two from meeting, but Brett had sent her an autographed jersey on which he wrote (via the Kansas City Star), “Lorde, you are Royal to me.”

On Tuesday night, before her concert in Las Vegas, they finally met.

It was probably really cool.
