Buffalo Bills Coach Doug Marrone announced Tuesday night that he had a cancerous mole removed, adding that it will not affect his job, according to the Associated Press.
“That’s basically the end of the story,” Marrone said in a statement released by the team. “The recent extraction procedure will have no effect on my ability to coach the team moving forward.”
Earlier in the day, the Bills created a bit of a stir when they posted a story headlined “Coach Marrone announces he has cancer” on their Web site before quickly taking it down. The story seemed to be a work in progress, for the most part, saying he had “BLANK TYPE OF CANCER.”
Last month, former Philadelphia Phillies star Mike Schmidt announced that he had been undergoing treatment for Stage 3 melanoma, but that the chemotherapy and radiation had been successful. Former New York Giants quarterback and current CBS announcer Phil Simms also survived skin cancer,
