Thomas Robinson, a reserve on the Portland Trail Blazers, was at his locker Thursday, preparing for the team’s playoff game the same way he prepares for every game.

Until he caught sight of movement in his locker and heard a hiss.

Inside the locker at San Antonio’s AT&T Center was a snake, estimated to be 3-4 feet long.

“No one believed me until they looked in there,” Robinson said. “It hissed, I backed up.”

“Man, me and Thomas at our lockers as usual,” Will Barton told Casey Holdahl of the Forward/Center blog. “We’re changing and he goes to put his shoes down and he’s like ‘What the …?’ You know what he said. He’s like ‘There’s a snake under my locker, dog!’ And I’m like ‘Stop playing.’ He’s like ‘No for real! A real snake!’ And we just looked under there and there was a snake. I was scared!”

Portland coach Terry Stotts identified the slitherer as a rattlesnake, but a Spurs spokesman denied that to the San Antonio Express.

“It’s bizarre to have a venomous snake in your locker room,” Stotts said. “I don’t know if it’s happened before. That sounds like an ABA story.”

Mo Williams posted a photo to Instagram, writing:  “We get in the locker room [and] it’s a damn snake, yea a snake in the locker room. Man, we was scared as hell.”

Portland went out and lost after that, falling into a 2-0 hole against the Spurs in their playoff series with a 114-97 loss.
