Angels’ Mike Trout, Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera won’t be in the MLB home run derby

(Associated Press)

Angels outfielder Mike Trout and Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera won’t participate in next week’s MLB home run derby, according to reports by MLB.com and the Detroit News, respectively.

Trout’s snub is no big surprise. Last week, he said the home run derby was something he would like to do “later in his career.” He also said he would rather watch the event, a stance echoed by Cabrera on Sunday.

Cabrera, batting .255 with 15 RBI in his past 25 games, also said he doesn’t want to mess with his swing.

As of now, the only confirmed home run derby participants are captains Jose Bautista and Troy Tulowitzki, and Giancarlo Stanton.
