Kevin McEnroe, the 27-year-old son of tennis legend John McEnroe, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in New York on Tuesday night after police found him to be carrying six baggies of cocaine and a number of prescription pills.

The New York Daily News has the report:

Kevin McEnroe, 27, was stopped by cops on the corner of E. Fourth St. and Avenue A about 11:24 p.m. after he was spotted carrying out what appeared to be a drug deal, police said.

In addition to the cocaine, cops found 20 painkillers, 10 morphine pills and one anxiety pill.

Here’s the Wall Street Journal with more:

Police observed Mr. McEnroe in a “hand to hand sale” with Niro Meneses, 22 years old, the official said. Mr. Meneses allegedly had 13 bags and three vials of cocaine and a green pill on him, the official said.

The official said police “don’t know which was buying or selling.”

Both men have been charged by police with criminal possession of a controlled substance. The two remained in police custody and were awaiting arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court.

Kevin McEnroe is the son of John McEnroe and ex-wife Tatum O’Neal, who herself was arrested for buying crack on the Lower East Side in 2008.
