Mike Tyson’s animated show looks about as nutty as you’d want it to be

Mike Tyson often seems more like an animated character than a real person, what with that tattoo on his face and his penchant for saying things that could only make sense in a very surreal, alternate universe. Well, the folks at Adult Swim made the brilliant decision to turn Tyson into an actual animated character, and have him star in a “Scooby-Doo”-esque mystery-solving show.

To judge from a “Mike Tyson Mysteries” trailer released at Comic-Con in San Diego, he is teamed up with the following characters:

  • The neurotic ghost of the Marquess of Queensberry, after whom early rules of boxing were named.
  • Tyson’s adopted daughter, a not-so-young-anymore woman who was left on his doorstep.
  • Pigeon, a hard-drinking member of the group of birds for whom the ex-boxer has a well-known affinity (voiced by Norm McDonald).

They drive around in the requisite mystery-solving van, and it all looks very hip and post-everything, which should fit it in perfectly with the Adult Swim lineup. What should also make this show at least worth catching for the first few episodes, of course, is the presence of Tyson. There is simply no suspension of disbelief required to see him fitting right into the world of this show.

“Mike Tyson Mysteries” is scheduled to premiere this fall.

He previously had used 'Desmond Bieler' as his byline, but feels that shortening the first name to 'Des' nicely conveys his ever-decreasing gravitas. He also covers Fantasy Football.
