No one, at this point, knows for certain whether Johnny Manziel or Brian Hoyer will be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns when the regular season opens, but Dick LeBeau is taking no chances.
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ venerable defensive coordinator is preparing for Johnny Football.
“I’m expecting Manziel to be the starter,” LeBeau told Cleveland.com on Monday, Manziel’s first day getting reps with the first team.. “That’s what I’m expecting. What he did in college is not an accident. He did it often enough against good teams.”
The Steelers open with a home game against the Browns on Sept. 7. Perhaps LeBeau, who has been in the NFL for decades, was just playing mind games, but it’s a little early for that.
“I think he is going to be a handful for all of us,” LeBeau said. “You watch all his games and he created plays, he made plays, he kept plays alive. He has the ability to see people and the touch with the football to get it in there late in the down. I think he will be successful at this level.”
LeBeau is preparing to stop that, starting Week 1.
