YouTube contributor Youssef Hannoun created a video that shows exactly how eerily similar Kobe Bryant’s game is (or was) to Michael Jordan’s. Or, to put it another way, the video shows just how uncannily Bryant was able to model his playing style after that of His Airness.
It’s one thing for Kobe to mimic some of Jordan’s famous mannerisms (the tongue hanging out) or moments (the famous shrug against the Blazers, a finger-wag). It’s another thing to actually play basketball in much the same way Jordan played basketball, at the highest level.
The video takes a play Jordan made, then shows a nearly identical play by Bryant. Over and over. Sometimes, Hannoun is able to meld the two into what appears to be the same play, so similar were their movements.
All in all, it’s pretty cool. Enjoy. Oh, and Jordan was better.
If you haven’t gotten enough of the Kobe/MJ video comparison, then you’ll be delighted to know that this is the third installment of the series. Here are the first two:
The videos were posted about a year apart from each other, and one can imagine that it must have taken Hannoun quite a while to get all this footage in the first place, then sift through it all to find these moments. Quite a labor of love. A love of leaving no doubt that Kobe Bryant studied the heck out of Michael Jordan’s moves.
