The Seattle Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch is under investigation by police in Bellevue, Washington. Investigators are looking at whether the star running back was involved in an assault and damage of personal property. The Associated Press reports:
The Bellevue Police Department released a statement Monday morning saying that the alleged incident took place around 2:30 a.m. Sunday and that Lynch is alleged to have been involved. Bellevue police stated that they have not been able to verify whether Lynch was involved, but are investigating.
The incident was reported by the female victim about 12 hours after it took place at a downtown Bellevue apartment. Police say there was no domestic violence or sexual assault involved in the allegation.
The Bellevue police reiterated that no charges have been filed against Lynch, and in fact, they’re still not sure he was even involved.
“This is only an allegation,” police spokesperson Seth Tyler told the Seattle Times. “We haven’t even verified that [Lynch] was involved.”
Lynch only began practicing with the Seahawks on Sunday — just about eight hours after the alleged incident occurred. The 28-year-old missed the first eight days of training camp due to contract negotiations. Lynch ended up getting a $1.5 million salary bump per year in his contract, although team sources (via ESPN) say he wanted $5 million more in 2014.
