In the first practice for Team USA since Paul George suffered a broken leg, DeMarcus Cousins had to be helped off the court after hurting his right knee in a scrimmage today in Chicago.
Cousins, of the Sacramento Kings, was going after a loose ball when he suffered the injury and was helped off the court. It was not immediately clear how serious the injury is and Cousins is expected to have an MRI. He is, according to USA Basketball President Jerry Colangelo, unlikely to play against Spain this weekend. Colangelo is, according to Yahoo’s Marc J. Spears, “wishful, hopeful” that Cousins is fine.
Team USA is preparing for FIBA World Cup play later this month in Spain.
George suffered an open fracture of his leg in an Aug. 1 scrimmage and is expected to miss the 2014-15 NBA season.
