If Clint Dempsey didn’t win you over earlier this month when he traded his jersey to a kid for a handful of popcorn, then watch this absolutely spectacular goal he scored against Sunday’s game against the Portland Sounders.

That was one heck of a run! Here’s Seattle head coach Sigi Schmid explaining to reporters (via MLSSoccer.com) exactly how long that run was:

“What a lot of people don’t realize is Dempsey made an 80-yard run to get into the box on that thing. He was at least 15-yards behind the center circle. That’s just tremendous effort and awareness and commitment.”

Of course, Dempsey’s efforts on Sunday were enhanced by the rest of the Seattle Sounders, and specifically Obafemi Martins, who scored twice along with Dempsey and Chad Barrett to knock out a 4-2 victory over Portland.

Martins’s second goal was even more tremendous than Dempsey’s. Instead of an 80-yard run, Martins made like an NFL running back and found his way through his opponents’ entire defense.

No wonder the match attracted a sold-out crowd of over 20,000 to Portland’s Providence Park stadium.
