Rick Perry: ‘Here we come, South Carolina!’

at 11:50 AM ET, 01/04/2012

Less than 12 hours after he announced he was heading to Texas to “reassess” his campaign, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) tweeted Wednesday morning that he plans to compete in the South Carolina primary.

“And the next leg of the marathon is the Palmetto State...Here we come South Carolina!!!” Perry tweeted Wednesday morning. The tweet includes a photo of Perry -- clad in a black running jacket, shorts and leggings – standing near a lake and giving a thumbs-up.

Perry placed fifth in the Iowa caucuses on Tuesday, getting only 10 percent of the vote despite spending more than $4.5 million in TV ads in the state.

South Carolina’s primary takes place on Jan. 21, following the New Hampshire primary on Jan. 10. Perry has already purchased TV ad time in the Palmetto State and has pinned his hopes on appealing to the state’s conservative GOP electorate.
