Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) kicked off his convention speech on a different note: By talking about basketball.
He joins Ohio Gov. John Kasich in insulting the administration's sports skills.
Thune said he is still waiting for President Obama to invite him over for a game. But he expressed confidence he could take the president one-on-one. In doing so, he also let fly a partisan jab.
"I can tell you this. President Obama would be easy to defend because you know he is always going to go to his left," Thune said.
Thune continued by assailing Obama's policies in the rest of his speech, zeroing in on jobs.
"We have a sluggish economy burdened by Obama administration policies weighing down our job creators," he said.
