Columnists worth anything?

Ask a group of veteran newspaper editors, and they’ll say that columnists form the bedrock of a daily; they give it a voice, news, vitality.

Ask a poll, and it’ll say “2 percent.” When asked what’s the main reason you subscribe to a newspaper, that’s the percentage of respondents who cited “columnists.” So how many responded affirmatively to the category “Coupons?”
