Daily Caller and EPA: A look at the history

How absurd is the story on which the Daily Caller is hanging its editorial integrity? Let’s have a look: The Daily Caller is reporting — and refusing to correct or clarify — a story that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) “is asking taxpayers” for 230,000 additional employees and an additional $21 billion in funding.

A look at the agency’s funding history suggests that such a move would be quite the anomaly:

Year EPA Funding (Billions) Percentage Change

FY96 6.5 --

FY97 6.7 3

FY98 7.3 9

FY99 7.5 3

FY00 7.5 0

FY01 7.8 4

FY02 8 3

FY03 8 0

FY04 8.3 4

FY05 8 (4)

FY06 7.6 (5)

FY07 7.7 1

FY08 7.4 (4)

FY09 7.6 3

FY10 10.2 34

FY11 8.6 (16)

FYDailyCaller 29.6 244

A 244 percent year-over-year boost in funding, it could be argued, should trigger a call to competent authorities.
