MSNBC’s Matthews, GOPers shout at each other

Matthews snaps. (The Washington Post)
The Hill is reporting that MSNBC “Hardball” host Chris Matthews channeled the spirit of his show’s title in a confrontation with GOPers at a Tampa restaurant in the wee hours of Friday morning. According to the account, Matthews fielded heckles and profanities as he was leaving the Tinatapas restaurant.

So he turned back and decided to mix it up a bit.

“I wanted to confront them,” Matthews said, describing his exchange with the men as “towel-snapping” among guys.
Matthews said he told the rowdy group, “What’s this, a douchebag convention?”

Matthews later said that the “convention” to which he was referring was the convention of rowdies at the restaurant, not the grand event that had just concluded.

One question, though: How is this news? Isn’t this what Matthews does on the tube every night anyhow?

The upside is that if Matthews can sustain this behavior, MSNBC stands a realistic shot, experts say, of supplanting Fox News at the top rung of the country’s most uncivil media outlets.
