Andrew Sullivan this week authors an attention-getting cover story for Newsweek titled, “Why Are Obama’s Critics So Dumb?? The piece argues that the president has “delivered in a way that the unhinged right and purist left have yet to understand” and also includes a critical tactical error. That of failing to mention Sarah Palin.
For that omission, Palin made Sullivan pay, via Twitter:
@Newsweek: know what’s truly “dumb”? Giving a cover story to the TrigTruther conspiracy kook writer who thinks I didn’t give birth to my son
That outburst is a reference to Sullivan’s obsession with Palin’s account of the circumstances leading up to Trig’s birth. Of course, the Trig situation wasn’t central to Sullivan’s case against Obama’s dumb critics, or even peripheral. It’s an old story, one that bears no relevance to today’s affairs and that no one really cares about anymore. A forgotten tale. So why on earth would Palin herself drag it back into the dialogue? Any guesses out there?
