Shafer, Romenesko as one

Two big, insidery stories hit journalism yesterday. Jack Shafer, one of America’s top media critics, is losing his job at Slate. And Jim Romenesko, the master aggregator/reporter on the media industry, is moving into semi-retirement.

How big a deal is all of this? One story tells that tale. Back in April 2005, Shafer wrote a column titled “The Romenesko Effect,” a piece that showcases Shafer’s ability to pull together trends in the news business and that appropriately fetes Romenesko’s elevation of media writing.
