As Howard Kurtz of CNN’s “Reliable Sources” makes clear in the clip above, military analyst Tom Ricks had a chance to sustain coverage of his clash with Fox News into yet another news cycle.

The much-discussed face-off went down one week ago, as Ricks appeared on Fox News’s air for a chat with host Jon Scott about Benghazi. Fewer than 90 seconds later, just after Ricks accused Fox News of serving as a “wing of the Republican Party,” Scott cut him off and ended the segment. Post-game analysis, discussion of whether Ricks had apologized and other forms of media critic-driven babble kept the story stoked all week long.

Had Ricks agreed to chat with Kurtz for yesterday’s “Reliable” segment, he would have come off as a publicity hound, or perhaps more of a publicity hound. He wisely declined.
