NBC News anchor Brian Williams poses an ace of a question to Susan Rice regarding her famous and career-changing remarks about Benghazi on various talk shows on Sept. 16. “Are you blameless in all of this?” Williams asked.

The response: “Brian, I don’t think anyone is ever wholly blameless, but I didn’t do anything wrong. I didn’t mislead, I didn’t misrepresent, I did the best with the information that the United States government had at the time.”

And right there, Rice perhaps served up a glimpse of the no-regrets attitude that disturbed the Republican senators with whom she’d met in recent weeks and that helped to torpedo her chances to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton as secretary of state.
