After social media exploded over announcer Brent Musburger’s wow-wee comments about the beauty of Miss Alabama Katherine Webb during ESPN’s broadcast of the Alabama-Notre Dame national championship football game, the network issued this statement:

“We always try to capture interesting storylines and the relationship between an Auburn grad who is Miss Alabama and the current Alabama quarterback certainly met that test. However, we apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far and Brent understands that.”

Clear implication: Musburger acknowledges that he went too far in coming off like a slobbering jock wannabe.

Truth: Musburger appears to acknowledge no such thing. In a quick interview at the Palm Beach, Fla., airport, TMZ asked the veteran sportscaster if he’d done anything inappropriate. “No,” came the response.

When asked about the ESPN statement, Musburger responded, “Individuals say what individuals say and corporations do what corporations do.”
