Of all the ways the people in years past have chosen to describe the mix of genius and misery and more misery in broadcaster Keith Olbermann, perhaps ESPN President John Skipper has crafted the most elegant. As the New York Times reports, Olbermann and his “representatives” over the past year have made various overtures to ESPN, where Olbermann rose to prominence and made people mad at him, as per Olbermann custom.

The quiet campaign by Camp Olbermann managed to secure a dinner date with Skipper at the Four Seasons in New York. To the New York Times, Skipper gave this quote, which needs little annotation: “After the dinner, at that point, there was no real appropriate place for Keith to come back, nor did I feel like I was prepared to bring him back.”
