A package of gun-control legislation due to hit the Senate floor next month won’t feature the assualt-weapons ban pushed by California Sen. Dianne Feinstein. How to write a headline for that development?

CBS News went with this one: “Assault weapons ban dropped, gun control supporters move on.”

The New York Times chose this: “California Senator Voices Anger Over Bill’s Exclusion of an Assault Weapons Ban.”

Time selected: “No Assault Weapons Ban: Not in Democrat’s Senate Bill.”

And the New York Daily News chose the treatment at top. Powerball should pay the paper a bit extra for this particular adjacency.
