A two-year suspension of approximately 75,000 student visas issued to people from Muslim countries. That’s the proposal from Bob Beckel, one of Fox News’s resident liberals, to crack down on terrorism here in the United States. It all went down on yesterday’s edition of “The Five,” Fox’s afternoon roundtable debate show:

BECKEL: I think we really have to consider, given the fact so many people hate us, that we’re going to have to cut off Muslim students coming to this country for some period of time so that we can absorb what we’ve got and look at what we’ve got and decide whether some of the people here should be going — be sent home or sent to prison.

In the video above, Beckel appeared on today’s “America Live” program with host Megyn Kelly to dig himself a lot deeper with this notion. Kelly could have sleep-walked her way through the debunking of this Muslin-student-targeting initiative. What about Russia? she asked. And doesn’t this resemble in spirit the World War II internment program against the Japanese? she wondered. Beckel mustered meek answers that don’t particularly merit repeating. His profiling plan sort of buckled right there on the “America Live” set, though Kelly’s takedown was quite cordial.

The idiotic Beckel Plan — highly discriminatory, highly unimplementable, highly ineffective — bears mentioning in large part because such wacko notions haven’t seen a lot of rotation in the past several days. The media and its squadron of pundits and commentators have processed information about race, religion and radicalization, by and large, with restraint and sensitivity. That’s why the Beckel Plans sticks out so much. Watch for him to bail on this craziness in the coming days.
