Rachel Maddow went superlong last night on the Justice Department’s secret subpoena against the Associated Press. Key points:

1) Republicans demanded investigation of national-security leaks springing from the Obama administration. Well, they got their investigation all right.

2) A federal media-shield law would have prevented the Justice Department from doing this sort of thing. But it was blocked by a Republican filibuster in the Senate, noted Maddow.

3) This is a “great American fight…. This fight is inevitable, but in America, the winner of this fight is also inevitable,” thanks to the Constitution, which “takes sides” in favor of the press.
