The New Jersey Star-Ledger has the full story of how 30-year-old Matthew Mills of Brooklyn, a 9/11 truther, managed to penetrate MetLife Stadium for last night’s Super Bowl, where he interrupted an interview with MVP Malcolm Smith to blurt out: “Investigate 9/11; 9/11 was perpetrated by people within our own government.”

At that point, he exited the scene.

Mills told the Star-Ledger he was merely trying to get close to the stadium in order to conduct interviews with fans. Thanks to an aging credential around his neck and some good storytelling, he got a lot farther. After the game, he got into the media tent and seized the moment during a lull in the proceedings.

Judging from the Internet attention to Mills’s prank, his words about Sept. 11, 2001, will be remembered longer than the words from Smith that preceded them: “I always imagine myself making great plays, but you never think about being MVP.”
