The New York Times noted the other day that CNN had recently “backed off its blanket coverage” of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. So it has: In recent days, for example, the network has gone deep on the Donald Sterling story and other non-MH370 topics.

Yet the official, formal, de jure end of the MH370 obsession will go down in history as 6:30 p.m. this evening. That’s when “Crossfire” returns after getting bumped starting on March 11, when CNN kicked in with the coverage that has earned it so many critics and such good ratings.
