When a big shot releases a book, there’s no such thing as an “exclusive” interview.

Hillary Rodham Clinton, author of the just-released “Hard Choices,” has made dates with ABC News, NBC News, CBS News, Fox News and CNN. Surely there’ll be other stops.

Fully aware of the crowded field of Clinton interviewers, NBC News anchor Brian Williams last night banged out a script touting the “extensive” interview of NBC News’s Cynthia McFadden with the former secretary of state. But when it came time to read the script, “exclusive” popped out of Williams’s mouth. Perhaps the anchor was a bit spoiled by his recent sit-down with former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden. Or perhaps it’s asking too much of anyone in broadcast journalism to read a word starting with “ex-” and not say “EXCLUSIVE!!!!!!!”

In any case, NBC News corrected the mistake, so the version on NBCNews.com bills the sitdown as “extensive.” Says an NBC News spokesperson: “Blame it on post-Normandy jet lag — Brian wrote ‘extensive,’ but misspoke in the 6:30pm broadcast. He regrets the error and fixed it immediately for subsequent feeds.”
