Cherry Blossom Festival: there’s an app for that

Sun peeks through cherry blossom trees. (Megan Rossman - WASHINGTON POST)
It’s that time of year again in Washington, D.C. Starting Saturday, folks will flood the Tidal Basin near the Washington Monument to participate in the Japanese tradition of cherry blossom viewing.

The festival is great fun, but can also be a little overwhelming to navigate.

To help, the National Cherry Blossom Festival has released a free app that lists and maps all events, gives visitors access to the latest festival news and lets you customize your own festival schedule.

Event blurbs give you basic information about events at the festival as well as the address and nearest Metro stop. The app also has social media features to let you tweet and post updates to Facebook.

The festival runs from Saturday to April 10. You can download the free app for Android handsets or the iPhone.
