Google introduces click-to-call features

Observant Gmail users may have noticed small change in their inboxes today. Google announced that it would be implementing a click- to-call feature in all e-mails starting today. Any phone numbers appearing in an e-mail in the standard 555-555-5555 format will be hyperlinked. Clicking on a number will bring up Google’s number pad and the option to place a call. To get the feature to work, users will have to install the voice and video plug-in. A small green phone will also appear next to the phone numbers of your Gmail contacts.

On Wednesday, Google rolled out a new click to call feature in its mobile browsers as well. Anytime a mobile browser uses Google to find an emergency service such as the police or poison control, phone numbers will appear at the top of the result. Searchers can then call those numbers with a single click.
