Kinect breaks sales record

Well, that was quick. The Kinect has broken the Guinness World Record for the fastest-selling consumer electronics device. The hands-free game controller, which went on sale in November, sold 8 million devices in its first 60 days on sale.

That’s more than the Apple iPhone or the iPad in their equivalent periods after launch, according to Guinness.

“The sales figures here speak for themselves,” said Gaz Deaves, Gaming Editor for Guinness World Records. “According to independent research, no other consumer electronics device sold faster within a 60-day time span, which is an incredible achievement considering the strength of the sector.”

To date, Microsoft said the Kinect has sold over 10 million units.
