In a keynote speech at the Game Developers Conference on Tuesday, Nintendo announced that it will bring the streaming video service Netflix to the 3DS handheld gaming system this summer. Netflix users can stream Netflix over a wireless connection, much as the service works on the Wii.
“Nintendo 3DS will be the most connected Nintendo device ever, with its ability to link people via local wireless connections, while at the same time connecting them to people and content worldwide via hotspot connectivity,” said Nintendo president Satoru Iwata in his keynote.
The company also announced that it will team up with AT&T to let 3DS users access over 10,000 hot spots across the country for free, starting in May. Gamers will be able to sign up for a service, called SpotPass, that will tell their devices to connect automatically to hotspots at retail locations and airports across the country.
