A report from DigiTimes, a Taiwanese tech site that puts out a lot of rumors and a few good tips, indicates that Amazon may be moving ahead with its plans for a tablet that could go on sale in the second half of 2011.
According to the report, Quanta Computer has received orders from Amazon to manufacture the tablet PC. The new tablets will use E Ink’s e-paper display for a touch panel.
The report also said that the tablet will have Fringe Field Switching technology, a color display that provides improved outdoor readability.
There’s already been speculation that Amazon and Samsung are working on a tablet, which would compete with Barnes and Noble’s recently upgraded Nook, a competitor to the Amazon’s wildly popular Kindle that behaves more like a tablet.
Amazon recently began selling Android mobile applications in its online store, adding to the speculation that it will introduce a tablet in the near future.
