Report: Apple researching projectors in their devices?

Imagine recording a movie with your iPhone, saving it to your phone, and then showing it off on the nearest blank wall.

Well, according to a report from Patently Apple, Apple is at least looking at the idea of having projectors in their mobile devices and in laptops.

Patents, of course, don’t often mean that a consumer product is on its way — in fact, it rarely means that product is on its way.

But it does raise one question — is there a market for this sort of thing? Projectors in devices, even smartphones, are not a new idea. There are a few models for sale outside the United States, and there are also small projectors that attach to phones in the market here. Some camcorders also have projectors, such as the Sony Handycam HDR-PJ50V.

Would you be interested in a projector built into your iPhone? Or would it be an unnecessary extra feature?
