Twitter might follow in the footsteps of Facebook and begin offering branded pages. A report from the U.K. magazine Marketing said that Twitter might be considering offering companies a new advertising platform, citing sources familiar with Twitter’s plans. It’s not clear how a page would look on Twitter, but Marketing reported that the pages are meant to provide brands with space to promote their content and encourage others to follow them.
Twitter users have traditionally resisted the company’s advertising efforts. The micro-blogging site has been viewed as a utility by many of its users, and has been struggling to find its advertising and marketing niche in past months. When the company made efforts to market in its iPhone app with its quickbar, which showed trending topics and paid tweets, users revolted. After quickly tweaking the feature, company removed the quickbar from its iPhone app last week.
