Spotify cuts free listening time in half

Spotify, the European music service, made some big changes to its service Thursday morning, cutting in half the amount of time users can listen to music for free.

In a blog post, the online service announced that it will be changing several of its policies, including cutting the amount of free listening time available on the site from 20 hours to 10 hours a month. Those who pay for the service are not affected. Spotify also said users can only play a track for free five times.

The changes start May 1.

The popular online music service has been trying to break into the U.S. for a long time, but has reportedly been hung up by negotiations with record companies.
