Susan Rice withdraws from list of candidates for secretary of state

Various news outlets have reported that U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice withdrawing her candidacy for secretary of state on Thursday afternoon.

Rice said in a letter to President Obama: “I respectfully request that you no longer consider my candidacy at this time.T he position of Secretary of State should never be politicized. . ..I am saddened that we have reached this point, even before you have decided whom to nominate. We cannot afford such an irresponsible distraction from the most pressing issues facing the American people.”
