Busy week expected for cabinet announcements

White House officials have told The Washington Post’s Scott Wilson that this week will be a busy one for cabinet appointments, starting with President Obama’s plans to nominate former Nebraska senator Chuck Hagel as secretary of defense and to tap counterterrorism adviser John O. Brennan for director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

The White House is expected to make an announcement about Hagel and Brennan on Monday. 

Republicans in recent weeks have questioned Hagel’s commitment to Israel’s security, suggesting a fight could be in the works during the Vietnam-war veteran’s expected confirmation hearings.
